Exercise Physiology at Enable

Build strength, fitness and independence for everyday life.

Exercise Physiology at Enable focuses on improving your strength, endurance and overall physical capacity so you can move more easily, participate in daily activities, and stay independent. Whether you’re recovering from illness or injury, living with a disability, or feeling like everyday tasks are becoming harder, our exercise physiologists provide structured, evidence-based programs tailored to your goals.

Who is Exercise Physiology for?

Exercise Physiology is ideal if your physical capacity is limiting what you can do day-to-day. This may include difficulty with strength, fitness, or energy levels. You might benefit if you:

  • Struggle to lift, carry or complete everyday tasks
  • Need to stop and rest frequently during walking or activity
  • Find getting up from a chair, bed or car difficult
  • Feel fatigued before finishing daily activities
  • Are managing a chronic condition (e.g. diabetes, heart or lung conditions)
  • Have lost strength or fitness after illness, injury or hospitalisation
  • Aren’t sure how to exercise safely or effectively

How we help

Our Exercise Physiology service is built around structured, evidence-based exercise that is tailored to your body, your goals, and your starting point.

We begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand your current strength, fitness, mobility and functional capacity. This allows us to identify what is limiting your day-to-day activities and where we can make the biggest impact. From there, we develop an individualised program that progresses over time, helping you safely build strength, improve endurance, and increase your ability to participate in everyday life.

Your program may include:

  • Assessments and testing of strength, cardiorespiratory (including VO2 max and submaximal aerobic testing) and mobility
  • Strength and resistance training to make everyday tasks like lifting, carrying and transfers easier
  • Cardiovascular conditioning to improve energy levels and reduce fatigue during daily activities
  • Mobility and flexibility work to improve movement and reduce stiffness
  • Functional, goal-based exercise that directly relates to what you want (e.g. walking further, returning to sport, managing work demands)
  • Wheelchair skills training to improve independence, safety and confidence in different environments

We track your progress over time using objective measures and adjust your program as you improve or your condition changes, ensuring you continue to build capacity in a safe and effective way.

Sessions and options

Programs are delivered in our specialised disability-friendly accessible gyms via:

  • One-on-one sessions for those needing a high level of support and supervision
  • Small group sessions (maximum three participants) for those who still want a personalised exercise program but don’t require individual support throughout their whole session
  • Community or home-based programs across Adelaide, for those who are unable to attend one of our gym locations
